First, measure and keep all the ingredients ready. Then, soak chana dal in water for 2 to 3 hours. Rinse it well and drain the water. In a pan, roll boil 2 cups of water, then add the chana dal and required salt (addition of salt avoids overcooking). You can also pressure cook for 2 whistles in 1 cup of water
Just cook the channa dal till soft, but not mushy (press between your fingers to checand then drain the water completely. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, once it splutters, add urad dal, ginger, red chilli and curry leaves.

Cook covered for 2 to 3 minutes in low flame. Switch off the flame and add grated coconut. Finally, mix everything well.
