The main prasadam offered to the Lord is Panchamirtham,Kandar Appam, Thinai Ladoo, Karthigai Pori etc,  If you are interested to know more about the festival, please read it furthermore….

Vaikasi Visakam is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Murugan according to the Tamil calendar. It is celebrated in the Tamil month of Vaikasi, the date between May and June according to the Gregorian calendar. Lord Murugan is the younger son of Lord Shiva – Goddess Parvathi and the brother of Lord Ganesha. Lord Murugan was incarnated to destroy the evil Asuras, the 3 brothers- Soorapadman, Singamuhan, and Tarakan, who attained immense power through deep penance. It is believed, only a special force, which is as mightier than Lord Shiva but born out of the Almighty, can destroy the  Asuras, who are considered unconquerable through the special boon bestowed by Lord Shiva as the fruit of their meditation for years together. Lord Murugan is the combined power of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati as he was born out of Lord Shiva’s third eye and was again fused by the Goddess Parvathi. Lord Murugan gets a special weapon from his mother, the mighty ‘Vel’, which is an amulet that destroys the evil and protects people against any odds of life. On this auspicious day, temples conduct special Poojas, rituals and offer Prasadams to their devotees.

At home, people would fast, take up special Vrat on this day by avoiding spicy food, have only milk and fruits. Lord Murugan showers his grace on all his devotees who observes this Vrat, and the significance is, helps to remove the problems in the family, protects his devotees from evil things and above all peace in the family.
