Tomato Kosthu Recipe | Thakkali Gotsu Recipe with step by step pics and a short Youtube video. If you like my video, please do SUBSCRIBE to my channel ‘Asmallbite’. This is a popular side dish in Tamilnadu cuisine, that’s served with idli, Plain dosa, Khara Pongal and even Poori too, it tastes so tongue smacking. We can name it as thakkali kichidi or quick tomato sambar as it gets done very quickly especially when you have guests at home, as there is no need to grind any spices to make this gotsu. Though it is called a quick tomato sambar, do not try it with rice as it won’t taste good, it’s pairs well only with tiffin items. Its watery texture is the highlight for this gotsu, but the consistency can be adjusted as per your preference, I have shared it in the notes section. Finally, do use country/naatu tomatoes only, as the hybrid/ Bangalore variety won’t suit for this gotsu. Furthermore, I have already shared Pongal Gotsu and Brinjal Gotsu in my blog, do check it.

Notes
Tips for Thakkali Gotsu Recipe
1. Use ripe and red tomato for a tasty and bright-coloured Thakkali Gotsu Recipe. 2. Also, use country/naatu tomato only. Never use hybrid / Bangalore tomato, as it does not suit this recipe. 3. Adjust green chilli and chilli powder as per spice level required for this Tomato Kosthu Recipe. 4. For more flavour 2 to 3 crushed garlic flakes can be added, while seasoning. 5. Addition of sambar powder is optional, but it lends more taste to the gotsu. 6. Moong dal can be replaced with the same quantity of toor dal too. But moong dal matches best with tomatoes in this recipe. 7. This gotsu consistency will be watery mostly, but you can prepare it slightly thick too. 8. Addition of idli batter, at last, is optional. But it helps to bind the gravy, otherwise, onion, tomato, dal, chilly will be separate. 9. Idli batter can be replaced with besan flour too, but it changes the whole taste. 10. Even 2 pinch of sugar can be added at last, which helps to balance the sour and spicy taste.
