Sago Urad Dal Porridge for Babies | Javvarisi Ulunthu Kanji with stepwise pics and a short YouTube video. If you like my video, please SUBSCRIBE to my youtube channel. This is a healthy and tasty weight gain porridge for babies above 8+ months. As sago / sabudana / javvarisi is loaded with carbohydrates and urad dal is protein-rich, it is an excellent source for nutrition for babies and toddlers. I have used very little ghee for making the porridge which lends a nice taste that even fussy toddlers also love to drink. This powder stays good for 2 to 3 months and I have already shared a Health Mix Powder for toddlers, do check it too.

Notes

Tips for Javvarisi Ulunthu Kanji

  1. Use good quality urad dal and sago. Also, clean it well for any dirt, before preparing the mix.
  2. Always rinse, then dry both the sago and urad dal separately. As it should be roasted separately because the roasting time varies.
  3. Drain the water thoroughly and then dry it. Ensure to dry for at least 30 minutes under the fan.
  4. Dry roast both the urad dal and sago in low flame only else it gets burnt. Urad dal should turn to golden brown color and sago should pop up.
  5. Always cool the roasted ingredients and then grind it, otherwise, it turns like a paste.
  6. Ensure to sift the porridge powder 2 or 3 times and then store it.
  7. Also, cool the porridge powder and then store it in a dry sterilized container. It stays good for 2 to 3 months.
  8. Always use warm or boiled water to prepare this Javvarisi Ulunthu Kanji.
  9. Cook the porridge without any lumps in low flame only. After getting cooked it looks glossy.
  10. Addition of ghee is optional but it helps for the weight gain of your baby.
  11. After 1 year, you can prepare the porridge with formula milk or cow's milk. But check with your pediatric doctor and then feed them.
  12. Never give white sugar for your babies as it is loaded with harmful chemicals. If needed, use natural sweeteners like honey, dates syrup or jaggery, palm jaggery, palm sugar once in a while.
