Sabudana Chivda Recipe / Sabudana Namkeen Recipe with step by step pics, a tasty and crunchy Navratri fasting snack. I suggest using the nylon, large variety of sago/tapioca pearls, as the regular ones won’t suit for this snack. But always ensure the sago is fried properly and it takes 5 to 6 minutes to get the perfect texture. It stays good for 10 days when stored in an airtight container, as sago has a high source of carbohydrates, it gives a lot of energy during the fasting time. Notes
Tips for Sabudana Namkeen Recipe
- Use nylon variety - big size sago pearls only, regular small sago pearls wont work for this Sabudana Chivda Recipe.
- Even 1/4 cup of fried gram can also be used for more taste.
- I used a metal strainer to fry, so it will be easy to collect all the fried items but you can fry it in oil directly too.
- Always fry the sago pearls (1 or 2 tbsp at a time) in batches only. Don't crowd the oil, otherwise it won't get fried properly.
- Check whether the sago pearls is fried properly, just bite 1 sago and ensure it is fried in the centre.
- Instead of chilli powder, 1 tsp of pepper powder or 2 to 3 green chilli can be fried in oil and added to the chivda.
- Adjust chilli powder as per spiciness required for this Sabudana Chivda Recipe.
- For more flavour, few curry leaves can be fried in the oil and added to the namkeen.
- For a pure white Sabudana chivda recipe, skip turmeric, chilli powder and add fried green chilli.
- If preparing for vrat or fasting, use rock salt.
- If preferred 2 tsp of sugar can be added, which enhances the taste of the chivda.
