Onam Recipes / Onam Sadya Recipes / Onam Special Dishes are made on the day of Onam – the harvest festival of God’s own country, Kerala. Sadhya means banquet in Malayalam, a vegetarian feast nearly 24 – 28 dishes served in a single course. I have heard from my Malayali friends that a larger Sadya menu has more than 64 items, that’s incredible, isn’t it! The main dish is plain boiled Kerala rice with parippu curry, sambar, rasam, puliserri, kalan, avial, thoran, olan, pachadi, kootu curry, erissery, pickle, puli inji, as well as papadam, Nendran chips, Sharkara upperi, banana, and curd. Finally, buttermilk (sambaram) and nearly 3 to 4 variety of payasam are served at the end of the meal. The dishes are served on the banana leaf in a specific order. I have shared 30+ recipes in this single post, each post is given with step-by-step pics, tips, and some recipes with a YouTube video. Please click the pics in this collage to read through all the recipes. This year Onam festival begins on 12th August and ends on 23rd August (date may vary).
Wish you all a Happy Onam.
