As Diwali is around the corner, I have compiled all the murukku recipes/murukku varieties in this post from my blog. Murukku in Tamil, chakli in Marathi, Chakkuli in Kannada, Murukulu/Chakralu/Jantikalu in Telugu, and so on is prepared all throughout India with different names, during festivals like Diwali, Gokulashtami, Navratri, Christmas, and New Year. It is sold in temples as a prasadam, given as a gift (seer) in marriages, and even in baby shower functions.
The main ingredient for murukku is rice flour, some people grind the flour in a mill for bulk preparation. But if you don’t have accessibility for the flour mill in your place, then no worries, I have shared the recipe for Homemade Rice flour in this post. Otherwise, you can substitute the rice flour with idiyappam flour for some recipes, as the thumb rule for getting murukku perfect is the flour should be fine. As almost, all the chakli recipes have ghee or butter in a small portion as an ingredient, I have shared the link for the same too. So, this post is definitely a keeper one for me also for my future reference.
Another fact is this murukku is commonly prepared with Rice flour and Urad dal flour, but I have shared murukku with Besan flour and a healthy one Ragi Murukku too. Mostly, all the murukku needs the murukku presser/maker, but if you don’t have it in hand, you can try Ring Murukku and Kai Murukku, which is made with your hands only.
