Mango Lassi Recipe with step-by-step pics and a short Youtube video. If you like my video, please do SUBSCRIBE to my channel ‘Asmallbite’. This Mango Lassi Recipe is an Indian beverage made with ripe mangoes, yogurt, sugar, and a dash of cardamom or saffron. Traditionally lassi is made just with yogurt and sugar, yet sweet lassi is sometimes prepared with seasonal fruits. This sweet, rich, and creamy mango lassi comes together in just 10 minutes and all you need are 3 main ingredients. Furthermore, you can enjoy this drink around the year by using frozen mangoes or canned mango pulp, and the drinks come out the same consistently. If interested, check my similar recipes like Sweet Lassi, Masala Chaas, and Spiced Buttermilk.

✔ About this Recipe

  • Mango Lassi is basically a yogurt-based, thick version of mango milkshake or smoothie.
  • Creamy, Rich, and Delicious
  • Simple and Easy
  • Vegetarian and Gluten-Free
  • Easily turned into Vegan
  • Best Dessert for a small party

✔ What is mango lassi made of?

  • Made with fresh yogurt or curd, sweet mangoes, and a touch of cardamom.

✔ Ingredients Used

  • Mangoes – use fresh, pulpy, ripe, and sweet ones. Do not use mangoes that are fibrous or sour.
  • Yogurt – using fresh yogurt is the key feature, as this a yogurt-based recipe. Sour curd will totally spoil the taste. Yet, Greek yogurt is another option but dilute the lassi with some water or milk.
  • Sweeteners – sugar is the unanimous option, still, there are alternatives like coconut sugar, palm sugar, jaggery, raw unrefined sugar, maple syrup, and honey.
  • Flavorings – saffron, rose essence, rose water, kewra, or vanilla extract too can be used.

Frequently Asked Questions

✔ Is Mango Lassi good for health?

  • Drop the sugar from the recipe as mangoes have their own sweetness. Also, use soy, almond milk in place of full-fat milk.

✔ Can I skip the sugar completely or any options to make it healthy?

  • If the mangoes, you use are too sweet, skip the sugar completely. It can be replaced with honey, powdered jaggery, palm sugar, maple syrup, or coconut sugar.

✔ Any tips to get a thick and creamy lassi?

  • Freeze the chopped mangoes for 3 to 4 hours
  • Use Greek or thick yogurt and don’t add more milk or ice cubes.

✔ How to make it vegan?

  • Use dairy-free yogurts like soy or coconut, regular milk with vegan milk, and sugar with maple syrup. But remember, coconut yogurt will lend a coconutty taste to the lassi.

✔ Storage Suggestions

  • Serve this lassi as soon as it is made. Though it can be refrigerated for a day, the yogurt will start to change in taste and flavor.

  • Mixer

Ingredients

1 Cup = 250 ML, 1 tsp = 5 ML

  • 1 Cup Mango
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 1 Cardamom Pod
  • 1 Cup Thick Yogurt
  • 1 Cup Milk

Instructions

  • Measure 1 cup of chopped mango (use sweet and fibreless mango). Freeze it for 3-4 hours, as it makes the lassi very creamy, but this step is optional. Then, measure 1 cup of thick yogurt, 2 tsp of sugar, 1 cardamom pod, and 1 cup of milk.
Note: Use yogurt that is fresh and not sour.
  • To a mixer / blender, add the sugar and cardamom pod (can substitute with 1/4 tsp of cardamom powder).
  • First, run the mixer roughly, so the sugar and cardamom pod gets powdered well.
  • Then, add the chopped mango cubes.
  • Blend it once or twice, if there are few mango chunks, it's fine.
  • Now, pour the thick yogurt.
  • Immediately, pour the milk to thin the lassi consistency, else might turn out quite thick and heavy.
  • Blend until smooth and add some more milk if the lassi is too thick.
  • Pour it into serving glasses.
  • Finally, garnish with saffron strands, almond and pistachio slivers, or mint leaves as preferred.
Serve this Mango Lassi Recipe chilled.

Notes

Tips for How to make Mango Lassi

  1. Use ripe, sweet, deep yellow-colored mangoes for a good taste and look.
  2. I used fresh mangoes, it can be replaced with ready-made/canned mango pulp or frozen mangoes too.
  3. Freezing the chopped mangoes for 3 to 4 hours makes this drink very creamy. But this step is totally optional.
  4. Use fibreless mangoes, otherwise strain the puree, and then use it.
  5. Sugar can be replaced with honey, powdered jaggery, palm sugar, maple syrup, or coconut sugar.
  6. Adjust sugar accordingly to your taste. If the mangoes, you use are too sweet, skip the sugar completely.
  7. Try to use yogurt that is fresh and not sour. As sour curd will totally spoil the taste.
  8. For a super thick, rich, and creamy Mango Lassi Recipe, use full-fat yogurt.
  9. Vegan Option– use dairy-free yogurt like soy or coconut, milk with vegan milk, and sugar with maple syrup. But remember, coconut yogurt will lend a coconutty taste to the lassi.
  10. Also, this Mango Lassi Recipe can be flavored with saffron,  rose essence, rose water, kewra, or vanilla extract too.
  11. Serve this lassi as soon as it is made. Though it can be refrigerated for a day, the yogurt will start to change in taste and flavor.
