Today’s post is Kadapa Recipe / Kumbakonam Kadappa Recipe with step by step pics and a short YouTube video. Many of you would be thinking, that kadapa means a district in Andhra or long stone used for kitchen slabs. It is a type of mild kurma prepared with moong dal, potato, grounded coconut with green chilli and tempered with few spices. This korma can be commonly seen in almost all hotels in Tanjore districts, especially Kumbakonam, hence the name. There is another version in this kadapa recipe known as Tiruvarur kadappa with slight variation. As my in-laws are native of Tiruvarur, my hubby is a die-hard fan of this dish. Whenever we visit his native place, we never forget to taste this drooling dish in Vasan cafe, a famous hotel which prepares the best Kadapa recipe. It pairs well with idli, dosa, set dosa, poori and even chapati too.

Kumbakonam Kadappa Recipe
2. Adjust green chilli as per spice level preferred for this Kumbakonam kadappa recipe.
3. Instead of lemon juice, 1/2 piece of tomato can be added, while sauteing.
4. Don’t add more garlic pods, else the kadappa recipe tastes odd.
5. Instead of grinding the garlic, it can be crushed and added in sauteing.
6. This dish should be in pale yellow colour only, so just 1 pinch of turmeric powder is enough.
7. Even carrot and green peas can be added. But the traditional recipe is made with potato only.
