The Tamil monsoon festival celebrated on the 18th day of the Tamil month of Aadi (mid-July to mid-August), also called as Padinettam Perukku or Aadi 18 festival. Padinettam Perukku literally means, ‘Padinettam’- 18 day of the Aadi month and Perukku – Rising. It is a unique festival celebrated in South India, dedicated to the perennial river basins, major lakes, wells and tanks too. This festival is observed and celebrated mainly by women as a water-ritual, to honour the Mother nature.
